Lungs CT Scan

How Long Will it Take?

  • Depending on the type of examination, a CT scan typically lasts 15-30 minutes and may require an IV.

How Does the Procedure Work?

  • A CT scan causes no pain. You will be asked to remain relaxed and still while the images are taken (up to a few minutes at a time). Movement is allowed between images.
  • A technologist will position you on the CT table and, as the study begins, the table will move into the scanner
  • You will be alone in the room during the examination. However, our staff is able to see and communicate with you by intercom throughout the test.
  • If you would be more comfortable, a loved one may stay in the room with you during your examination.
  • Some types of examinations may require the use of soft straps to keep the head and neck in proper alignment.

After the Procedure

  • You will be asked to wait until the images are reviewed by the radiologist to determine if more images will be needed.
  • The radiologist will report the results to your physician.
  • There is no recovery time associated with this prodcedure.
