Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRIs use no radiation. Rather, powerful magnets together with radio waves are used to image the body. The high level of detail makes it a valuable tool in the early detection of a variety of conditions. MRI gives clear pictures of the tissue around bones making it the most sensitive exam for spinal and joint problems. Computers reconstruct the signals into images the Radiologist interprets.
What Does MRI Test?
MRI is useful to diagnose a wide range of conditions, such as:
- Slipped (herniated) disks
- Pinched nerves or fractures of the spine
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Stroke
- Cancer
- Heart and vascular disease
- Abnormalities of the abdomen and pelvis
- Sports injuries
- Joint disorders
- Blockage of arteries anywhere in the body, especially
- Arteries going to the brain
- Arteries in the brain
- Arteries to the kidneys
- Arteries of the legs and arms
Central Virginias Only Open MRI
Radiology Consultants with CVI was the first to install a state of the art open MRI anywhere in Central Virginia. Further, it is the only MRI certified by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in Central Virginia.
An open MRI reduces the feeling of confinement often associated during a traditional MRI, making your experience calmer. Open MRIs have made an enormous difference to our pediatric, overweight, and claustrophobic patients and to anyone nervous about having an MRI exam.
